Universal Spool Holder, Fully 3D Printed

This model is restricted by licensing terms.

Fits ANY spool. Up to 1Kg as is (see photos), scale up for larger spools (see "Larger spools" section).

Can be printed on a Mini 3D printer. Prints in one piece, pre-oriented, zero assembly.

Option to pass the filament through a guiding hole.

Print settings 3-4 perimeters 20-30% infill Material: PLA is more rigid with less friction, while PETG is less brittle.

Larger spools Scale up depending on printer and spool size: For 2-3Kg spools (up to 300mm diameter) scale up to 128%. If it won't fit your printer, try scaling it less on the Y axis (using non-uniform scaling). Scaling Y to 125% will fit an Ender3, while keeping X and Z scaled at 128%.

I prefer storing all filament in dry boxes, but this is my next best option.

No supports required. Support free. Supportless.

Used PLA+, 4 Walls, and 25% Cubic Infill for Strength.
Printed perfectly!
This Universal Spook holder is glorious in its simplicity- the opposite of Bambu Labs AMS. The AMS is like Old Greg- Promises all that is good, but has a downstairs mixup (AMS assist motor overload error = mangina). Thanks to the maker for a simple one piece spool holder that doesn’t require effing ball bearings and an assembly guide.

Don't cheap out on the walls, I printed 3 and 20% infill and 1 minute after this 10hr print finished it broke

Prints beautifully, with zero issues whatsoever. Feels strong, and I haven't had any break under full spools yet!

Love it! Thanks so much for this design!

I printed it with 3 walls and 20% infill but the holder kept snapping off due to the weight of the spool (it was a new spool that weighs 1kg)

Looks like you forgot one chamfer at the top corner

Nice! Printed and soon to be used. Might I make one suggestion? Add some indents or ridges on the base to hold 4 of those self adhering clear cabinet bumper pads.

Just had to stick some bumper pads to the bottom of mine. First print and the printer yarded the holder, spool and all right off the shelf above it. Too slick with just plastic.

Would you release the CAD file, so that people make their own indents?

Interesting idea! You can still use the pads. I take it you don't want it to look like it's levitating? I've got a bunch of bumper pads of various thicknesses which would require various depths 🤔

why is there 2 hole at the bottom?

Indeed, they are for filament guiding, although I didn't have to use them in my tests.

I'm assuming they are the filament guiding hole referenced in the description

For guiding filament. It's both sides because if you have it the other way around, you still have a little hole.
