The Horizontal Rail
A horizontal version of The Rail has been the most requested addition to this system, and I've finally worked it out! This version uses two dowels (1", 25mm, or 23mm). Using two dowels ensures the pots wont tip forward and will stay secure.
Two sizes of pots are included with this download.
How to mount to your wall
- Slide middle wall mount onto dowels. Position it directly in the middle
- Slide two planter attachments on either side of the middle wall mount
- Place left and right wall mounts on the ends of the dowels
- Insert the keyhole markers into the keyhole slots on the left, right, and middle wall mounts
- Firmly press against wall in desired location and the keyhole markers will make an indent where you need to drill. Use a level to make sure it's straight
- Drill holes using a 1/4" drill bit
- Insert wall anchors and screws (#10 - #12 x 1-1/4" screws and anchors)
- Make sure the screw head is sticking out just far enough to tightly fit in the keyholes. Use the included depth gauge to determine the distance the screw head should be sticking out
- Attach rail to the wall
- Slide planters on to attachments
Supports Supports are needed for the flat overhang on the back of the planters. Supports are not necessary for the attachments but can be used for the top inside of the holes.
Scaling This cannot be scaled because the keyhole slots are specifically designed for #10 - #12 x 1-1/4" screws and anchors.
Orientation
- Everything prints upright with its flat bottom on the build plate
Print Settings
- .2mm layer height
- 15% grid infill
- 2 walls
- Set bridge flow to 1.6 for drip trays

Colors I used:
- Ivory White

Would I be able to put Ira planters on this? Looks like yes to me but just to confirm. Thanks!
Would it not be cool to have an adapter part for the horizontal rail to fit on a vertical rail. This adapter part could have predrilled holes on the side to screw in the horizontal dowels to prevent them from sliding out. Then I could use two tripod vertical rails and have a horizontal rail I can put anywhere in a room not just on a wall.
I third this! would love to connect two vertical wall hangers on either side of a window to a horizontal wall hanger that ran in front of the window. OR..... two tripod planters with a horizontal between them. thanks for the awesome stuff!
I want the horizontal-vertical connection as well! For me it would be wallmounted though. So I am hoping for a deeper wall connector and a vertical-horizontal mounting solution to connect horizontal to vertical and vice-versa!
This would be so cool with dovetail connectors on each end so it could be connected onto two normal rails!
Is the new bridge flow setting for drip trays something I should be changing on all pots? I'm curious if this helps improve the snug fit of the drip tray? Thanks man!
Saw this on a facebook reel and now we're planning on redoing the kitchen because we love this so much! What width dowel did you use in the photo? Like is it 4ft, 6ft, etc.? I know we can do whatever we want, but I like the spacing you have on that photo.
Awesome! I used a 36" dowel but like you said, you can use whatever size you want. 36" dowels are just the most common at hardware stores. If you decide to go any longer than 4ft, you might want to use an additional middle mount to ease the load on a wider span.
I am printing this now, you think theirs a way you could add in the middle a scalable height pendant light so we have a nice light mount? Almost a complete design with this
Yes! I have tons of attachments coming for this one. Also, I just noticed an issue with the middle wall mount. If you're printing that part, I'd cancel that object. The files are updated now so you can redownload and print the fixed middle mount.
the middle part printed okay with exception to the round holes the top side of them almost seems to need support. ill redownload
Yeah the middle mount can print fine without supports but feel free to use them if you feel like you need them. Round holes don't usually print very well in a vertical orientation but the insides of them are hidden by the dowels so I wasn't worried about it.
it turned out awesome, ide love to see a light mount for this as your vertical rail one is awesome thank you
So ive printed some of the pots and dovetail attachments and they dont slide together very easily is there a setting change you think is needed to help that tolerance?
What printer are you using? Did you use the 3mf with the preloaded settings or did you import the STLs into your slicer yourself?
Just loaded the 3mf and realized it changed settings so I will retry the print now.
I imported them into the slicer, cr10 pro, I guess I didnt know there was a diff
Would be great to have an option for a 3/4" dowel rod as well. I already have a bunch of those and would be nice to re-use them.
