Ryu - Forma Vase Collection

Infuse your home with a sense of fluid power with Ryu, a dynamic addition to the Forma Vase Collection. This vase features a bold, helical structure of deep twisting ridges that evoke the legendary movement of a dragon soaring through the air.

Design & Concept: I designed the Ryu vase—named after the Japanese word for "dragon"—to represent strength and organic flow. The silhouette is defined by thick, rhythmic fins that spiral aggressively around the body, creating a high-relief surface that transforms as you move around it. The geometry is specifically engineered to interact with light, casting sharp, dramatic shadows that emphasize the "twist" of the form. By using a speckled or stone-effect filament, the vase takes on a premium, mineral appearance that bridges the gap between digital precision and handcrafted stoneware, making it a sophisticated focal point for any modern interior.

Key Features: Bold Helical Ridges: A series of deep, twisting vertical fins that provide a powerful sculptural presence. Dynamic Shadow Play: The sharp angles of the ridges are designed to catch and diffuse light in a rhythmic pattern. Sturdy Architectural Form: A solid, balanced cylindrical base that flows seamlessly into the complex spiraling upper body. Tactile Stoneware Aesthetic: Optimized for textured materials to achieve a high-end, gallery-quality finish.

Hardware Required: None. This is a single, fully 3D printed sculptural model.

Printing Recommendations: Material: Speckled Green or Moss PLA (as shown) is highly recommended to accentuate the draconic, organic theme of the design. Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.20mm is ideal to capture the crispness of the twisting ridges. Infill: 10–15% Gyroid for structural stability. Walls: 3 Walls for a premium, solid feel and enhanced durability. Supports: To ensure the best results, I have included a pre-configured .3mf file with custom support blockers and enforcers. I highly recommend using this file, as the only necessary supports are the ones already placed and optimized within the project to guarantee a clean finish with minimal material waste.
