Inspired by the ACOTAR series by Sarah J Maas, I present to you these bat wing bookends :) I modelled these wings in Nomad Sculpt (painstakingly so, with my noob modelling skills) and they came out really great (I think!)
They're fairly easy prints - about 4 hours printed in standard PLA with about 15% infill (black wings in the images). I did mess around with other different settings, and printed a pair in translucent PLA with 0% infill and those came out great too! I personally preferred the 0% infill prints (the grey translucent wings in the pictures).
I also printed the red wings (in the picture) in PETG but due to the nature of translucent PETG and the slower speeds, those took about 7 hours. LOL. I'd say stick with PLA.
You should use whatever settings you feel comfortable with, however - since these aren't fussy like HueForge prints. I found that slowing down the outer walls ensured that the wings had the same 'sheen' through out the print so you can do the same if you're using glossy filament! I think it doesn't matter if you use matte filaments.
My settings:
- 0.2mm layer height
- Wall loops: 3
- Detect thin walls: YES (make sure you turn this on! Or use Arachne!
- Top shell layers: 2
- Bottom shell layers: 3
- Monotonic line for everything
- Sparse infill density: 0% (but use whatever you feel is best for you!)
- Outer wall speed: 90mm/s
- Supports: A MUST. I used Tree (Hybrid), 0.3 top and bottom Z distance and 0 interface layers
I have attached the 3MF in this post, but not the STL so that you have free reign over the models themselves to rearrange them on the plate however you want. You can open the 3MF in whatever slicer you want, you just won't get the settings I used baked into the project. If you open it in Bambu Studio, the attached 3MF is the 0% infill version of the print :)
IMPORTANT NOTE!!
These do not stand up on their own. The wings are too heavy without the books sitting on them, so they tip backwards if you do not weigh down the flat bottom portion. Just put a little figurine (or a book!) on them, and they'll hold up nicely!
