Filament storage is one of the biggest challenges for any 3D printing enthusiast. The Platforma Hanging Filament Spool Rack tackles this problem by reclaiming the unused vertical space in your closets. Engineered as a hybrid storage solution, this system combines the durability of PETG structural brackets with the load-bearing capacity of standard wooden dowels.

Designed to hang effortlessly from a standard 1.25" closet rod, the brackets suspend two 1" dowels to create a secure, highly accessible cradle for your filament spools. Because it utilizes independent rigid rods for the horizontal span, you can cut your 1" dowels to any length, creating a custom rack that holds anywhere from 5 to 15 spools. To ensure maximum accessibility for the maker community, the bracket system is engineered in three interlocking pieces, allowing it to be printed easily on any standard machine with a 225x225mm build plate.


Key Features

  • Hybrid Structural Span: Uses cheap, widely available 1" dowel rods for the horizontal shelves, preventing the sagging or snapping common in fully 3D-printed racks.
  • Universal Closet Fit: The top hooks are dimensionally calibrated to snap securely over standard 1.25" wooden or wire closet rods.
  • Accessible Sizing: The three-piece modular bracket design fits perfectly on standard 225x225mm print beds (Ender 3, Bambu A1/P1, Prusa MK4, etc.).
  • Infinite Scalability: Spacing between brackets is dictated solely by the length of the 1" dowels you purchase, I used 48" rods and am able to store 15 spools of 1kg filament.

Printing Tips

  • Orientation: Print all three pieces flat on their sides. This ensures the continuous layer lines run along the length of the hooks and dowel supports, providing the necessary shear strength to hold up to 15 kg of filament.
  • Supports: This model requires supports for the hanging portion of the interlocking hooks.
  • Scaling: It is recommended to print at 100% scale to ensure a precise fit for all accessories, if you would like a custom size please feel free to message me :)
  • Tolerance/Assembly: Wood dowels can swell due to humidity. The 1" receiving holes are designed with a slight clearance, but if your dowels are particularly snug, a light sanding of the wood or a 1% scale increase in your slicer will ensure a perfect fit.
