The strap for pulling the tailgate shut always bothered me, as we didn't use it anyway and I have a large pull-out kitchen unit installed in that area.

That’s why I removed it and replaced it with this 3D-printed part.

It is awesome to hang sth. up like a lantern.

Assembly: Print the parts, insert one section of the axle and push it outward, then insert the second section. Insert the hook (as shown in the sketch) and guide the axle sections into the hook. Secure everything from the outside using the square pin. Depending on printer tolerances, you might need to apply some force here—ideally using a vice or something similar.

The screws from the original strap can be reused.

When removing the strap, make sure to use good tools. VW used a huge amount of thread-locking compound here (at least on my vehicle), so it takes quite a bit of force to loosen them the first time.

Material recommendation: PETG (dry and low fan) - For maximum toughness and heat resistance.

I tested the hook with a lantern and an outdoor shower. You would have to test much heavier items at your own risk ;-)
