Mustang Mechanism - Kit Card
Mustang Mechanism Difficulty: ⭕Advanced This fully 3D-printable kinetic horse mechanism captures a running gait with smooth, lifelike motion. I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time refining the linkage so it feels as natural as possible.
The kit snaps together by hand—no tools required.
It makes an excellent gift or stocking stuffer for anyone who enjoys mechanical curiosities, and it’s also a proven seller if you’re adding new products to your 3D-printing business.
All linkage parts come on a sprue tree (much like classic model kits). It keeps everything organized, easy to track, and allows you to store or gift the print before assembly.
The build guide has been tested by friends and family, though I’m always looking to improve. At the end of the instructions, you’ll find a QR-code survey—your feedback is most welcome.
Your download includes:
- STL files for the Mustang mechanism
- Individual component files for replacements
- Assembly instruction sheet
- 3D-print instruction sheet

Seems like a really cool concept. Will be printing the files tonight and trying to assemble them. Would be cool to have the files suffix being what colour to print them in or something as simple as being Box_ColourA.stl BoxLid_ColourB.stl
Just to make it as easy as possible to print I don't quite understand the individual replacements. Are the steps for building our own Linkage Trees? Is the Linkage Tree a pre-assembled model?
Oh wait, linkage cards have the numbers on them assuming the pieces will break apart from the card.
The other cool thing to see would be .3mf files ready to print. Especially since I am seeing the photos are Bambu Slicer plates.
I will look into the best way to add .3mf files in the future. Thanks for the feedback!!
