Flying Squid – Mechanical Biomimicry Build Kit Difficulty: 🟡Intermediate The Flying Squid is a fully mechanical build kit that mimics the natural motion of a squid’s tentacles. The linkage system recreates smooth, organic movement using only printed parts—no electronics, hardware, or extra components required.

This design is part of my Biomimicry Series, where I turn the most requested animals from my video comments into working mechanical models.

The kit is designed for standard FDM 3D printers and assembles entirely by hand.

What’s included:

  • All STL files
  • Backup individual part files (for easy replacement)
  • Step-by-step assembly instructions
  • Print settings and guidance

All parts are organized to either:

  • Fit neatly inside the printed box, which also serves as the base, or
  • Attach to a single sprue tree that holds all linkage components together

A satisfying mechanical build, display piece, and conversation starter—driven purely by motion and clever geometry.
