EZPZ Mini Magnet Strip Collection // 5 Rectangular Wall Mounted Magnets
Make your own tiny yet powerful magnet strips with these EZPZ models so you can store metal objects easily on any wall. Simple and sleek to suite any setting! Glue standard 6x3mm (1/4" x 1/8") Magnets into the TPU strip for a clean design that can be surprisingly strong (6x2mm can also work). The TPU strip helps grip items better while being extra robust and protecting both the print and the parts you're mounting.
This collection includes 5 different sizes of mini magnet strips, so you can print the perfect one for your needs. Each size has a screw-mount back and an adhesive-mount back for you to choose from. These are the approximate sizes:
- 10x60 mm rectangle
- 10x90 mm rectangle
- 10x120 mm rectangle
- 20x65mm rectangle
- 20x90mm rectangle
- (if you need another size, leave a request in the model comments!)
You can download the 20x65mm size for free here or check out my Squiggle Magnet Strips for some squiggly fun.
Printing Guidelines
-
Print the TPU strip with 3 shells, 1.6-.2mm layer height, 5 solid bottom layers, 4 solid top layers, 10% infill. You can turn off gap fill, set solid infill threshold to 0, disable ensure vertical shell thickness, and other settings that add unnecessary infill.
-
Download includes two versions of backing. The standard 'Back' includes no mounting hardware, and is made for use with 10/20mm double sided acrylic tape or another adhesive. For a stronger connection, the 'Back_ScrewMount' part includes holes for standard wood screws.
-
Backing can be printed using a hard plastic and default settings. use 4 shells for the screw mounted version, or print solid for maximum strength.
-
Softer TPU will offer better grip, but I got great results with BambuLab 95A HF TPU filament
Assembly
-
Start by gluing your 6x3mm magnets into the TPU strip using E6000, UHU, or another flexible adhesive. It's easiest to glue the magnets in while the print is on top of a metal/magnetic surface so the magnets stick down instead of trying to stick to one another. Orient the magnets in the same direction. N52 rated magnets are significantly stronger than cheaper N35 magnets- choose the appropriate strength and number of magnets for your use case.
-
Once the magnets are fixed in place, use the same adhesive to glue the TPU strip into the hard backing. If using the screw mounted backing, install the back onto the wall before gluing in the TPU strip. Otherwise, add acrylic tape to the back for mounting (clean but less permanent) or adhesive (more permanent).
