3DPI Trophy - Entrophy.stl

This design is a submission to the “3D Printing Industry Awards Trophy Design Contest” being hosted by Thangs. 3D Printing Industry (3DPI) launched the 3D Printing Industry Awards in 2016 to celebrate excellence in additive manufacturing and showcase the applications, enterprises, systems, and individuals driving the industry forward. 

This is an experimental design that explores transition of a set of design elements from an ordered to a disordered state. The cubic lattice structure at the top transitions to a Voronoi lattice at the base. The nameplate is positioned vertically on one corner.
It is designed to showcase the technical capabilities of additive manufacturing, specifically SLS printing.

Spiral Cube 3D PI Awards Trophy 2023

Spiral Cube Trophy is a 3D printable model that lets you create your own unique and elegant trophy for the 3D Printing Industry Awards. It is a trophy that combines geometric shapes and curves to create a stunning visual effect. The trophy has a base with the year “2023” written on it, which is a rotated gear shape that supports the rest of the trophy. It has a stem that connects the base to the top part of the trophy, which is a thin, elongated shape that has a curved profile. The top part of the trophy is a circular shape with a cube in the center, which is suspended using strings. The models with very thin structures use very little material to print but are delicate and require extra care when printing and processing.

To print, rotate the model 180 degrees upside down so that the top of the skull is oriented to the build plate. The skull is tilted slightly forward to reduce the need for internal supports. If you maintain the forward tilt of the skull you will only need to generate support to the top of the head. The rest of the model will print without the need for supports inside of the skull.

HOW TO SUPPORT

Just add a thick line of light supports around the bottom of the roller, connecting to your raft of choice. It’s that easy.


WHY BUY MY ROLLERS?

My goal is to use as little resin as possible in my texture rollers. My design displaces a cylinder’s mesh on the outside and inside (inside displacement is reversed) to use as little unneeded resin as possible. My rollers are so thin that only around 15.5 milliliters are used, letting you save precious and overpriced resin.

You can also see the texture you’ll be rolling on the inside of the cylinder, letting you easily find the right roller in your collection.


PLEASE

Let me know if the roller breaks on you. I use elegoo space grey 8k resin, which has been holding up fine with my test prints but might be less sturdy with your resin of choice. Leave a comment and I will upload a thicker version to this creation.



3D Printer settings:

115 millimeters tall, 15.5 milliliters of resin used on average.

Print with supports! I use light supports and they come out fine. Please view the link in the description for an example of support placement. It’s incredibly easy.
