A wearable fusion of tradition and innovation, this fully 3D-printed kimono can be styled in two ways: wear it with the matching 3D-printed Obi for a classic look, or throw it on as a statement jacket for a modern twist. Every piece is modular, repairable, and designed to evolve with your wardrobe. Notice that the interlocking connectors that keep the sleeves in place are shuriken? Because why use standard fasteners when you can add a ninja touch? ;) Assembly: 🧩🧩🧩 (Puzzle Mode) | Soft TPU recommended

Printing Details & Assembly 📐 Required Build volume: 300x300cm

  • Material: Soft TPU (83A or lower) for the large panels to maintain a textile-like feel.
  • Infill: Gyroid infill works best to mimic fabric drape and flexibility.
  • Structural tweaks: To reinforce shoulder connections, increase wall count on larger pieces and print connectors in a denser, less flexible material. Assembly guide is coming! In the meantime, I've added a pattern layout picture, but realistically you'll likely need the guide hahaha.

Fit & Customisation

  • Prefer a sleeker, modern look? Remove the sleeves or shorten them by skipping the bottom panels.
  • Make it yours! Experiment with colours, textures, and finishes for a one-of-a-kind design.
  • For custom alterations, email me at hello@variableseams.com!

Sustainability & Modular Design Zero-waste, fully repairable, and adaptable—this kimono is designed for longevity and transformation. Replace individual parts instead of discarding the whole garment.

Outstanding Notes This is Version 1, and while it’s fully wearable, two areas need refining:

  • Shuriken connectors can loosen over time — reinforce with a snugger fit or tweak the material settings by using a higher wall count for fabric panels and denser infill for connectors.
  • Shoulder tension points need more weaving through. Same here, the above solution can reduce the problem in the meantime.

The Backstory Making a kimono has been a long-time dream. Even before I touched a 3D printer, I bought a sewing pattern book—turns out, it finally came in handy!
