I wanted to make another self watering planter that felt more like a piece of modern art than just a home for your houseplants. That’s how Surface came to life—a self-watering planter with a sculptural outer pod that’s as eye-catching as it is functional. This is a new model within my self watering planter collection so if you have already printed one of these, you can simply print the outer part and interchange it with the one you already have!
It’s made up of three parts: the sharp, geometric outer shell; a watertight liner that nestles inside; and a triangular inner pod where the real magic happens. The pod holds your soil and plant, and it tapers to a point full of small holes that allow water to wick up from the reservoir below, keeping roots perfectly hydrated without the guesswork.
The design stands out with bold, acute angles and a textured surface that gives it a clean, architectural look—modern and a little edgy, in the best way.
You’ll just need to print the pot part upside down to get the best result—no supports needed otherwise, and everything fits together without glue or fuss.
