This is a LED frame made up of triangular shape cells for use with LEDs/LED strips to create images of various birds.
LED strips are laid into the slots in the back and these illuminate each triangular cell with a color. A sheet of white paper or other diffusion material is placed over the front for each pixel to be lit up evenly. A piece of clear acrylic is needed to hold the paper against the cells. You might not need the acrylic if your diffusion material is stiff enough but I have not tried anything else. Maybe thick Mylar would work? These LED strips are controlled via a Raspberry Pi.
I will later include a separate back for use with flat-top LEDs if you don't want to use strips and a Raspberry Pi. You will be locked into a certain bird color scheme then, of course.
i will also later include the Python script.
This is all very much a work in progress, but I do have the finished prototype done and working but it's really rough right now as you can see in the included picture. You can see some light bleeding out underneath the cells into an adjacent one that should not be lit. I do not have the piece of clear acrylic on top so you can see some cells are not well-defined.
I do not have a great camera but hopefully you can see that it is an Eastern Bluebird illuminated in the frame. I will upload some more images showing different color configurations and bird sizes/positions.
