Hello! Do you like flowers? Do you like to add a bit of flair to what you make? Well here is a great solution, a seed bomb mold shaped like a generic cartoon flower. Break the petals off for smaller bombs or chuck the whole thing into a barren looking spot to bring some vegetation back to your community!

How to make a seed bomb using this mold... Ingredients: 5 cups compost 2-3 cups powdered clay OR clay soil 1-2 cups water 1 cup LOCAL wildflower seeds- do some research to see which wild flowers occur naturally near you. A small piece of cling film your freshly printed seed bomb mold newspaper to cover your working area!

Steps

  1. mix your seeds, compost, and clay together in a bowl
  2. add water a little at a time, mixing together with your hands. If your mixture can be rolled into a ball and keep shape, you have achieved the right consistency! Add extra water or clay to get there if you need.
  3. Cover the face of your flower mold with your piece of cling wrap
  4. press some of your soil mixture into your mold, making sure to really pack it in there! Remove any excess.
  5. flip your mold upside-down onto a piece of newspaper. The plastic cling wrap should make the release nice and easy.
  6. Repeat until you have hella seed bombs.
  7. carry your seed bombs outside to dry in the sun for as long as possible. I will use the same newspaper that I've placed them on indoors, and hold that paper taut as I carry them outside.

How do I use my seed bombs once dry? Watch your weather forecast carefully and as soon as you hear about the first spring rain, go on a tossing spree! Look for areas that could use a little more nature in your community, such as empty lots, planted medians, etc. Putting them out before the rain will allow them to get properly hydrated to start sprouting.

You can also toss this bomb in a pot with soil and water them and watch your hard work pay off!
