I dislike having a huge footprint for my art supplies and was having difficulty finding an "all inclusive" portable watercolor/sketch kit at all, let alone for an inexpensive price tag. So I made one.

This print took me about 17hrs on my Creality CR6-SE as I wanted it to be super solid and smooth.

This palette is made to fit a 3-layer storage container from walmart (https://www.walmart.com/ip/3-Layers-Clear-Storage-Organizer-with-Portable-Handle-Adult-and-Kids/886448267) on the second shelf.

  • There is a notch placed in the corner so it will be easily removable. You can use the underside as additional palette/mixing paint space
  • The palette holds up to 18 colors with 6 of those spaces being "double sized" for your most used colors.
  • I filled the pockets with liquid watercolor paints and let them dry out. There is no loss in quality from the paints this way.

I've cut some watercolor paper and made a custom art block to fit the top shelf (This is a good tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z52qcOhShvM)

  • If you put a small ribbon under/glued to the back then you can easily lift it out and use the space as more palette/mixing paint space

I put these supplies in my bottom shelf:

  • Two 4oz Mason Jars for cleaning and painting water (https://www.hobbylobby.com/Clearance/Clearance---Crafts-Hobbies/Clearance---Glass-Crafting/Quilted-Glass-Mason-Jar---4-Ounce/p/100968) NOTE: I replace the lids of my jars with plastic ones as they are easier for me to use and dishwashable
  • A small water spritzer I recycled from an old planter kit
  • A chunky chip clip that I use to hold loose paper down or rest my wet brushes on
  • 2 scraps of old T-shirt for drying brushes and blotching paint up
  • Snack bag with kneadable eraser
  • .5 and .7 mechanical pencils with a lead refill container
  • .8 and .05 white Gellyroll pens
  • .005 and brush Micron ink pens
  • 3 Prismacolor color pencils for sketching
  • 3 Princeton heritage brushes in sizes 3, 6, and 1 (the 1 I had to cut the end of the brush to make it fit, about 1/4 inch)

NOTE: there is still some room for additional supplies. Maybe 2-3 more brush/pencils can fit on the bottom shelf without causing it to not close. Also if you make the top waterblock thinner, or after a while of removing them, you can fit pens/pencils at the top too.

This has been super handy for me to keep all my watercolor supplies safe, tidy, and portable for going out on adventures. I do also usually carry a small A5 sketchbook with me for when I want to be more of a "journaling" mood.
