I LOVE these Gridfinity spool modules: https://www.printables.com/model/610197-gridfinity-spool. Big shout out to this creator cuz these spools are INCREDIBLE!
However, I have lots of things to spool and some of them won't fit in the 1x1x6 format. So I decided to make a 2x2x12 version for spooling larger sizes and quantities of spoolable material.
Features: • Capable of holding an entire 1lb spool of solder • Equipped with dual M4 socket head screws and washers that act as sliding surfaces, minimizing wear on the printed parts • The socket head cap screw allows for winding using a power drill, making the spooling process faster and more efficient • The spool is designed for effortless hand rewinding, easily accessible from both the front and the top • Features a slot for easy threading • Comes with a groove to keep wound material within the bounds of the Gridfinity grid. Occupies a 2x2U space with a 12U height and includes a stackable lip
Materials Needed: • 2x M4 socket head screws (button head screws also work, flat heads might as well) • 2x M4 washers
There are several slot widths in both the bin and the spool to accommodate different diameters of spoolable material. I like to use a smaller slot in the spool and slightly larger slot in the bin (e.g. 4mm spool slot, 5mm bin slot for 14ga wire). I printed in PLA with 10% infill and no supports and was amazed at how cleanly the slot bridged. YMMV.
