I designed this rig for quick, consistent and clean sanding of leather edges with a rotary tool. Inhaling leather dust/particles is bad for your lungs and messy, so I added an extraction port to solve both problems. Attach it to your vacuum or shop-vac and rock on. You can remix the port size to fit your vacuum tube diameter.
NOTE This is modeled after a small diameter sanding drum, as shown in the photos. If you have a larger diameter drum you will need to remix.
You can remix the grind plate to make the width of the sanding surface area wider or narrower if you want
This is a companion piece to the rotary tool table mount: https://thangs.com/designer/motolupo2022/3d-model/Rotary%20Tool%20Table%20Mount-1153716
Assembly:
The small lock ring fits into place at the top of the collar. I sprayed both pieces with superglue activator and bonded with high-viscosity superglue. It is necessary that these two pieces are flush at the top, the ring should seat level with the inner mating surface as in the assembly photo.
Remove the threaded collar on your rotary tool and put the sanding collar into place then put the threaded collar back on and tighten it down. Depending on the brand of your rotary tool, you may need to remix the sanding collar to accommodate the diameter of the threaded collar.
The grind plates clip on. They are a press-fit and is meant to be a very tight fit so it doesn’t vibrate during use. Properly dried filament is imperative for this. Two grind plates have a chamfered side for chamfering edges and one grind plate has a taller, narrower channer for belts, etc.
Printed at 25% triangular infill with PLA+, CF PLA etc. You want a rigid filament. Three walls are recommended for added rigidity – it will be subjected to a lot of vibrations.Dry your filament, eat your vegetables, don’t do drugs.
