Pop Open Sink Drain Strainer

This model is restricted by licensing terms.

Now with pick-up knob for easier use. See the STL filenames to choose the type of your choice.

Pull this drain strainer out of your sink and hold it over the waste bin, squeeze the sides, and it pops open to drop out any trapped food scraps. Push it back together and drop it back into the drain. Touch-free disposal of your food scraps from the strainer.

I have designed this product in 2 heights to accommodate various sink drain heights. The lower profile design is approximately 22mm high and the other is approximately 30mm high.

This design is resistant to hot water that humans can cope with but of course, do not pour boiling water directly onto it. Use PETG and print with 100% infill.

100% printed - no hardware, fasteners, or adhesives required. No support required

Thank you pilbomags70 for the inspiration for this design!

See my blog for more details at… https://www.logicalplanet.com/

How I print it: Material = I recommend PETG.
Nozzle = 0.4mm Layer height = 0.2mm Line width = 0.4mm Wall count = 4 (1.6mm) Infill = 100% Brim = Do not use brim (everywhere) as it could close up the gap between the outer and inner parts. Ironing = ON, to help produce a smooth finish that food scraps are less likely to stick to.

Commercial Licensing is available through my Thangs Memberships.

Hello! I was wondering where I would find the files with the pickup knob option. I didn't see them in the download package.

Wow, I did not know it was missing from this listing. Thank you for letting me know. I have added it now.

I've tried but result in only one solid piece. No popup :(

You need to calibrate your printer. Follow this guide: https://teachingtechyt.github.io/calibration.html

I have the same problem , first time ever , weird.

Sorry to hear it. But generally indicates over extrusion or too much first layer squish.

Well I'll try another day , went on a way bigger mission ,Disassemble my extruder and nozzle to unclogged it.. I'll check the setting you said and give you an update on it if that's alright? For now I still have a nice Sink drain Strainer , I printed it in transparent PETG.

oh... the clogged nozzle. I hate that; can definitely relate. Keep me posted and I am super happy to help in any way I can. I am going to release a new version of the pop open strainer in the next little bit but the overall tolerances will be the same. The other thing that occurred to me that might cause the problem you described is... brim (or support). If brim was enabled it could cause the small gaps to close up. I forgot to note that in my listing but will add it.

Wondering the best way to make this work on a drain hole that's only ~44mm diameter? The 22mm height is fits about perfectly. I'm wondering if scaling the other dimensions will stop it working correctly?

I think 44mm might be too small for this design. Can you send me a photo of the drain? And perhaps I can make an alternative design. Pdb6251@gmail.com.
