NEMA 17 Stepper Motor Housing

UPDATE I have added a file called "Generator Housing Mk7" This is the same housing, but there are holes on the bottom that will also fit M3 screws

This is a NEMA 17 stepper motor housing, intended to be used with a 42.3x42.3x48mm stepper motor, but I have included the STEP files if you would like to modify the model for your own needs.

The housing is printed in two pieces, a lid and the main housing. It is held together with eight M3x10mm screws. I recommend screwing the lid onto the motor first, before inserting the motor into the housing. See images for details.

I printed this model in Printerior rPLA, but I imagine it could be printed with more durable filaments.

Print Settings for Lid:

  • Infill: Cubic 10%
  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm
  • Supports: Tree
  • Adhesion: None

Print Settings for Housing:

  • Infill: Cubic 10%
  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm
  • Supports: None
  • Adhesion: None

NOTE: Less infill will mean that more air gets trapped inside the housing, which makes it more insulating. More infill will make the housing stronger. Depending on what you need, to may want more or less infill than what I chose.

If you would like to make the housing more water resistant, you can add some rubber seals. See images for details. I used the rubber from an old bicycle inner tube, and it worked pretty well. I used some superglue to hold them in place, and some hot glue over the wires.
