Hoshi - Lamp Base

Illuminate your space with Hoshi, a minimalist lamp base that blends industrial texture with clean, modern geometry. Designed to be a versatile foundation for your custom lighting projects, this base offers a sophisticated way to showcase your favorite Edison bulbs or decorative shades.

Design & Concept: I designed the Hoshi base—named after the Japanese word for "star"—to focus on the tactile quality of the materials. The main body features a stout, cylindrical form with a deep, volcanic-inspired surface texture that creates a rugged contrast against the smooth light of a lamp. The project is split into two main components: the textured outer shell and a functional internal lid. This modular design makes it easy to install your lighting hardware and ensures a clean, professional look without visible cord clutter.

Functional Simplicity: A minimalist silhouette that complements a wide range of interior styles, from industrial lofts to Zen-inspired spaces. Optimized for Customization: The neutral, textured design serves as a perfect canvas for different filament colors and finishes.

Hardware Required: E27 or E26 Lamp Socket: Designed to house a standard screw-in lamp socket. Power Cord with Switch: A standard lamp cord will be needed to complete the functional assembly.

Printing Recommendations: Material: Matte Black PLA or Carbon Fiber PLA is highly recommended to emphasize the rugged, stony texture of the base. Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.20mm is ideal. The rough texture is very forgiving and helps mask layer lines effectively. Infill: 15–20% Gyroid for a weighted, stable feel. Walls: 3–4 Walls for extra durability and heat resistance near the socket area. Supports: None. The geometry is designed to be printed as-is, though the internal lid may require a small amount of support depending on your socket fitment.
