David Pixel Vase

Merging classical art with a digital soul, the David Pixel Vase is a unique reinterpretation of Michelangelo’s masterpiece. This bust uses a blocky, voxelized aesthetic to transform a traditional sculpture into a modern piece of functional decor for your desk or shelf.

Design & Concept: I designed this project to bridge the gap between Renaissance sculpture and the "pixel" art style of modern gaming. Every feature of the original David has been translated into a series of distinct cubes and steps, creating a complex, layered surface that is satisfying to look at and touch. The top of the bust is hollowed out, allowing it to function as a stylish vase for small indoor plants, dried flowers, or a unique holder for your favorite tools. This piece is all about celebrating the evolution of art from hand-carved stone to digitally-modeled geometry.

Hardware Required: None. This is a single, fully 3D printed model.

Printing Recommendations: Material: Matte White PLA is highly recommended to mimic the look of marble while emphasizing the voxel shadows. Layer Height: 0.16mm or 0.20mm works great. The "stepped" nature of the design actually helps hide layer lines within the voxel geometry. Infill: 10-15% Gyroid. Walls: 3 Walls to ensure the hollowed-out section is sturdy and watertight.
