Gridfinity 1x4 Silicon Wire Base

Do you hate those spools of silicon wire that unwind themselves the millisecond you take them out of the horrible cardboard box they come in? I know they're in the box for a reason, but they're ugly and I want mine to feel at home among the other Gridfinity organisation on my workbench.

This model might be the answer for you! The base is a 1x4, 0.25 unit high tray with holes to guide the wires. The Spool Guard can be printed as many times as needed, and just to annoy everyone (just a little), I added space for SEVEN spools, when they usually come in boxes of SIX! You're welcome!

This will fit the 55mm x 20mm spools. I printed at 0.2mm layer height, on a 0.4mm nozzle.

You can print the spool guards on their side, and make sure you enable support for surfaces touching the build plate. This will create a small support for the ring but not fill in the hole. I set my support overhang to 46 degrees, so the 45 degree reinforcement ring prints without support.

I've uploaded a couple of images showing what this looks like. I separated the black and red, using the 7th spool space ;)

The spool guard is excellent.
prints quick and flawless in transparent PETG and Galaxy Black for the base.
It took 6x20m and 1h with a 0.6mm nozzle.

Thank you so much. I used to leave all my wires in a heap on the corner of my table. Then I used some 3/8" dowell and some gridfinity designing to make a wire holder, but this did not stop the unwinding issue. This is perfect.

Would it be possible to add magnet holes to the base?

You are a lifesaver! I regretted throwing out the box the second I had to actually take any wire from the previous design I was using. Although they need a little support material, the guards print quickly and fit snugly to prevent any tangles. I'll upload some photos once I've printed the baseplate.
