The Sportsball Tiles (imperial and metric sports)
byZackFreedmanCome on and SLAM! Welcome to HEXTRACSHAN! The rhyme doesn't work, but you know what does? This all-star tile for Hextraction, the hackable 3D-printable board game. This is tile 1 of 5 in Booster Pack 3: Practical F-Hex.
Bring the magic of sportsball to your favorite open-source turn-based hexagonal brouhaha! Nail the jump, get the thing into the other thing, and score your way through. Brick the shot and you'll awkwardly slump off to the side.
Don't let the tiny ramp fool you - as long as you're moving the right speed, it's perfectly calibrated to swoosh a ball right into the carefully-shaped scoop-net-ball-catcher-thing. When oriented straight up, a ball needs 2-3 tiles of runway to clear the gap. When placed at an angle, it needs 3-5.
Too slow, and the ball will fall short, shamefully slinking out a side exit. Too fast, and it'll fly into low Earth orbit. But get it right, and you'll sail right into the end zone. The best part? This baby is all physics, with no effects to administer or mechanisms to fail!
I've provided two versions - Metric and Imperial. The dimensions are identical, the only difference is whether or not the portrayed sport is American. It's purely for flavor, or in the case of the metric version, flavour.
If you've got multi-material magic, mull over the 2-Color variants. Just drag the set of 2-Color Tile and Details into your slicer together and assign different colors (Metric: colours.) For the ultimate in convenience, open the included 3MF file in Bambu Studio or PrusaSlicer. Otherwise, just open the 1-Color version of your choice. None need supports or a brim, and they print fine in 0.2mm layers.
I designed this tile's predecessor, the Sauce Dunk, as an exclusive giveaway for Open Sauce 2023. We handed out all 800, and folks still wanted more. This tile is too good to put on the bleachers, so I tightened up the measurements, infused it with sporty style, and released it for the world to enjoy. At least the part of the world that gave me $10.
If you'd like to edit the tile, the source is here: https://a360.co/3Ol4HUz While you're free to re-distribute the tile outside Thangs' paywall, I'd like to ask that you at least modify it a bit. The more people buy Booster Packs, the more time I can devote to making more.
