How do you get power to the pi when there is no space to plug in the usb cable, even with the slot cut out?

also the normal 5v power pins on the gpio header is already occupied with the display. solder something to the test pads near the usb connector and power it that way? or solder some wires to the bottom of the gpio pin header (backside)
