The Secret of NIMH is a dark and gritty animation with real heart. As a kid, some of its heavier tones went over my head, which is part of why it held my attention and my parents’ too. As an adult, I see even more craft in it. I have a lot of respect for storytellers who make something that welcomes kids and rewards deeper reflection later.

This piece is my tribute to Mrs. Brisby and a push on how far support-free printing can go. It prints in one go. Drop it on the bed and go. The pose, drape, and details are tuned for self-support, so your time goes into painting and display instead of tearing off and repairing damage from supports.

A little history for fellow fans The Secret of NIMH (1982) was directed by Don Bluth and adapted from Robert C. O’Brien’s Newbery Medal novel, “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.” The film changed Frisby to Brisby to avoid a trademark conflict, but kept the story’s core about courage, family, and doing the right thing when it is hardest.
