Perthes HipsLegg-Calve-Perthes Disease is a childhood medical condition that affects the hip joint, specifically the femoral head. This rare disorder occurs when the blood supply to the ball part of the hip joint is temporarily interrupted, leading to necrosis or the death of the bone cells.

In the initial phase, the lack of blood flow causes the bone to become weak and malformed. Symptoms at this stage include limping, pain, stiffness, and a restricted range of motion in the affected hip. Over time, as the blood supply returns, the bone begins to regenerate, but may not form correctly, leading to potential deformities and long-term complications.

Early diagnosis is crucial for effective management and treatment of LCPD. Treatment options vary based on the severity and stage of the disease, but often include a combination of physical therapy, bracing, and surgical interventions. The primary aim of treatment is to restore normal hip function, alleviate pain, and prevent deformity.

Children with LCPD often require regular follow-ups with an orthopaedic surgeon, physical therapists, and pediatricians to monitor their progress and adapt their treatment plan as needed. With timely intervention and proper care, most children can recover normal hip function, although some might experience long-term issues.
