Keep dust and debris out of your hotend with this filament cleaner.

I have some very old filament that has quite a bit of dust on it that I want to avoid getting into my printer. I designed this simple print which will allow you to insert a sponge into the canister and then push your filament through. Doing so should really help make sure the only thing going into your printer is the intended filament.

Went through a few revisions and am very happy with the end result. There are two versions with one for 1.75mm and one for 2.85mm filament.

I printed at .2 layer heights in PLA and the threads worked very well.

Cap 100%
Body is 20%, but I would do it again at 60%.
Use a little white lithium grease on the threads.

I screwed the cap on down to the last few mm, and it gave way. I don't remember if I used 10 or 20 as infill. Going to re-print just the cap at 100%. EDIT: That worked.

Thank you.

Cap is too large, will not screw into the body.

I rinted the 1.75 version and I cannot screw in the cap into the body. I printed the cap at 98.5 % scale and still no luck. Maybe @matas is right. I also opened the STEP file in Fusion360 but it is working very slow. Every modification take ages to complete. Other files work fine in F360. I will try to print the 2.8 version to see if the threads are OK.

Thread on the cap for 1.75mm is 1mm oversized, and doesn't work properly for NPT 1/4 which is internal thread

It should download them as a zip file so you can unzip and then just choose the size you want :). Unless you are referring to the .step file. Since I modeled them in the same Fusion project I did not see a way to export them separately.

Be nice if the two size versions were downloadable separate so you could do either the sizes!
