I designed a fully mechanical, articulated Minecraft chests that uses a single rubber band to open the lid and secure it with a snap mechanism. The design preserves the original aspect ratio of the classic vanilla chest, making it a great fit for desk setups, cosplay, or simply organizing your belongings in a creative way.

It’s also highly customizable, thanks to multiple panels that can be printed in different colors to match your style. Both the standard and double chest versions are operated by a simple rubber band, something easily found in any home.

Components

• Ordinary chest base and lid

• Rubber band - 30/40/50 mm

Assembly Insert a filament piece to act as a hinge for the locking mechanism, as well as between the base and the lid. Trim the filament flush at the edges for a clean finish. Then, use a rubber band to connect the chest’s locking component to the back of the lid, allowing it to open and close smoothly while maintaining the snap-lock function.

Use a drop of glue for each face and attach the pannels.
