Samla Sifter 🧺⚙️

A motorized sifting machine built to sit perfectly on an IKEA SAMLA box—made for anyone experimenting with recycled PLA granulate. This is a WIP open project, and you’re invited to tweak it, improve it, and share your own upgraded versions.

😊 Why You'll Love It:
• 🌀 Motorized sifting action delivers consistent, hands-free material separation • 🎛️ Adjustable shaking angle lets you fine-tune speed and aggressiveness • 🧱 4 mm printed sieve mesh creates uniform granulate under ~4 mm • 🧩 STEP + Fusion (F3D) included made to adapt, remix, and share improvements • ♻️ Perfect for recycling projects makes reused PLA actually usable again

📐 Quick Specs: Fits IKEA SAMLA 39×28×28 cm / 22 L (requires ≥250×250 mm build plate | ~1.5 kg filament)

🎨 Filament Used:
my own recycled PLA, but any will do

🛠️ Hardware Used:
• NEMA17 stepper motor (5 mm shaft, ~25 mm length): Get it • Stepper motor driver / controller: Get it • 24V power supply: Get it • DC barrel jack: Get it • Neodymium magnet ~90×19 mm: Get it • M3 square nuts & M3 worm screws • M3×10 screws (motor mounting)

hi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBNBLF1DaF8

basically you add a height range modifier for 0-2mm and set the top and bottom layer to 0 and the inflill to 20% and grid this should result in the bottom 2mm only be printed in grid infill

printed this after seeing the video by Next Layer on youtube. Works pretty great, once the material gets to the sifter. The hopper seems to get stuck a lot. Definitely some of my material is too big, but not sure the best solution besides manually sifting before loading. Maybe multiple layers of sifter with different sizes?

thank you!

you can extend the linkage arm from the motor to the sieve a bit (by 6mm or so) so it will hit the funnel, and shake it a bit. someone else has already done this mod. i ddint have time to test this tough

I did see that, helps a lot. I also just... grabbed a metal rod and use it to clear jams. :D

What do you use to turn it back into filament?
