With halloween right around the corned, I wanted to design a new car and theme it accordingly. I took inspiration in Hotwheels' "Bone Shaker", and came up with this gorgeous Hot Rod!
As my previous design, it uses a piece of filament as axles, since printing them at such a scale was not an option (see video on preparing the wheels). But if you'd like to print it bigger, of course, a filament won't do, so I did include printable axles for use at bigger scales, I tested 150% and 200% and works like a charm.
As always, my designs are comprised of multiple parts to mix and match colors as desired. I even included variations. You may chose between printing shutted windows, or the interior details. Also you can print a non-halloween version with a regular front grill and headlights. And, of course, the jack-o-lanter is optional.
Easy print, without supports (well, this time there's one piece that uses support, I included a version with custom supports integrated in the model) Easy and satisfying assembly, no glue required at all.
The model is for a 1:64 scale, same size as most diecast car toys such as hotwheels, matchbox, etc.
3D printing settings
The files should position the parts in the correct orientation when placed in the slicer.
- 0.2 layer height
- 2 perimeters
- 15-100% Infill (more weight make it faster on tracks)
Look for included 3mf file. They were made on orca slicer, with an Ender 3 profile. Each part is on a different bed, already positioned and with the same settings I printed with.
Recommendations
- Try using classic perimeter generator instead of arachne, I got better results for the body at least.
- Use adaptive layer height on the body for smoother results
- The rims should press fit, but they're a bit tricky to get right, use XY contour compensation in your slicer to find the right fit. They are really fast to print ;)
