Together they work to keep working actors paid and provide benefits. Keep in mind that only a small fraction of the SAG-AFTRA members are wealthy. Most are like everyone else; they work hard to make a basic living. But unlike others, they have no guaranteed job following their current position, and if they don't get enough work in a calendar year, they lose their benefits for that year.
