Arkitektoy

Hello, my name is Luc.

Driven by a lifelong passion for design and architecture, I've developed three distinct building sets named PUZLO, KESTO, and KOMBINO. These sets are at the heart of my designs for 3D printed toys, puzzles and kit furniture.

None require screws or glue for assembly. PUZLO employs dowels for connectivity, KESTO pieces interlock smoothly, and KOMBINO introduces an innovative method I'm eager to unveil.

Currently, I'm not allowing derivatives as I aim to establish my own standards. However, I'm excited about the prospect of opening up my designs for collaboration in the near future.

On Arkitektoy World, the Daiku's Secrets are embodied in three Building Sets named PUZLO, KESTO and KOMBINO .

Developed from a common geometry over 45 years, each set offers a distinct assembly mode unified by a singular style, inspired by the Bauhaus School and the artistic movement De Stijl who were themselves influenced by the Japanese aesthetics, particularly minimalism and functional simplicity.

3D modeling and printing gave me wings to create with these Building Sets and I've found the freedom to innovate even more.

Unlock the mysteries of The Daiku's Secrets with this subscription plan, and be among the first to discover them.

I am pleased to introduce my second model.

Her or his name is HOPI

This puzzle comprised 18 pieces that make up the body, assembled with fifteen dowels, plus four snap-fit connectors for the claws, and one additional snap-fit connector to secure the back and the head to the rest of the body. No screw or glue is needed.

Just like ELEFANTO, HOPI is part of a series of 3D puzzles I've created using my building set PUZLO. You will see more friends in the coming weeks.

The parts are positioned on two plates.

PLATE 1 The first plate contains the pieces of the body. They are positioned to ensure smooth curves and avoid a stair-step effect. Your 3D printer should be able to handle bridges created at the ceilings of the holes, and so, no part requires support.

PLATE 2 The second plate contains the dowels and the snap-fit fasteners. Precise clearances have been calculated so that the dowels should slide well into the holes without wobbling. However, these clearances cannot be guaranteed due to variations in filament types, printing speeds, and machine performances. Therefore, it is advisable to run a test with a single dowel before printing the fifteen needed for assembly. For this purpose, I have included a Test Dowel on plate 2.

More details can be found in the PNG image included “HOPI_Printing and Scaling”.

Technical Specifications

  • Model dimensions: 54 x 157 x 177 mm
  • Estimated filament needed (including dowels and attachments): 215 g
  • Number of pieces: 38 in total, including 18 main pieces, 15 dowels, 4 snap-fit fasteners for the claws and 1 more (a little smaller) for the body.

Filament

  • PLA POLYLITE ‘SILK GOLD’ from POLYMAKER

Printing

  • Nozzle size: 0.4
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Print speed: slow, especially for the parts on the second plate (dowels and snap-fit fasteners).
  • No support needed.
  • Build plate: preferably smooth.
  • Brims: given a clean, well-prepared build plate, I suggest to set brims only for the snap-fit fasteners.
  • Infill percentage: 15-20%.

Post-Processing
No post-processing is required. All parts can be printed in the same color for a uniform look, or you can print some parts in different colors to personalize HOPI and make it uniquely yours.

Scalable The main parts are scalable, while the dowels require careful adjustment. For downscaling, I suggest 75% or 50%, adjusting the dimensions of the dowels by printing the Test Dowel first, as mentioned above and further described in the PNG image attached: 'HOPI_Printing and Scaling'.

Assembly This puzzle is designed to be fun and thought-provoking without being too difficult. Consult the Assembly Instructions (PDF included) or try assembling HOPI without help for a little challenge.
