Gift Box #21 This is my fifth season making these gift boxes. They all may look the same from the outside but each one has a different secret way of opening.

The first gift box of 2025 is the first to have two variations. One version can be easily opened by a single person. The other version requires two people to open it, or one person with four hands... To open it, pull the corners of the top of the box in the required direction perpendicular to the box. This disengages the catches and allows you to remove the top.

The 2-pull version requires two corners to be pulled at once while the 4-pull version requires all four corners to be pulled at once. This is because the catches are spring loaded, so they reengage when you let go. This makes it hard for a single person to pull all four corners at once because of the direction they need to be pulled.

Printing Its roughly 100mm x 100m x 80mm tall. The top prints in place as one part with no supports, designed for a .4mm nozzle. The bow and ribbons are printed separately and are glued on. I used Starbond Medium CA Glue(aff.)

I printed all the parts in the orientation the stl’s are provided in. I decided to add helper disc to the stl's, which I have not done before. Let me know what you think of this. I printed everything at .2 layer height with a .4mm nozzle. The box could definitely be printed at a larger layer height without issue.

Too much friction? Try PTFE Lubricate Spray(aff). This stuff is amazing and just a little bit will majorly help to smooth the motion. If you don’t already own as set of these clamps(aff.) you should pick them up, they really help with gluing the ribbons on.

Printed on the Prusa Core One(aff.)

Other Gift Boxes You can find previous years gift boxes in the Puzzle Present Collection.

Can these be scaled up and still work?

I would think so but I have not tried and I think it would depend on how much it is scaled. Maybe I need to make one that is bigger then the rest.

I'm doing a test print that is 125% in X & Y. I left Z alone. I'll upload a picture after it's done printing.
