Deaths Edge This sword was my sons project for MRRF2022. It’s his original idea, design and finishing work but I provided plenty of help and advice along the way.

The following is written by him.

Origin Story: This sword is from a Manga I plan on making called “We Can Be Heroes”. In this story many asteroids hit earth separating it into more states and countries and giving the humans powers for good and evil. The holder of the sword is Kage. (Kage means shadow in Japanese.) He can control his shadow monster with six eyes of DOOM!

How I made it: This was painted with a base coat with metallic then, a coat of black with some silver. After that, I put titanium on the face and platinum on the blade part. Finally, I painted the hilt to look like wood and 6 eyes on the gemstone.

Printing The parts are printed vertically in the orientations provided. They were printed in 3D Fuels standard PLA because I had it on hand but if I was buying new I would suggest their Pro-PLA because its much stronger. The sword prints in four pieces with the tallest piece being 291mm high.

Assembly The parts are meant to be assembled with a 5/8” or 16mm diameter Wooden Dowl Rod. You will need to cut the rod 19, 13 and 4 inches long. I would suggest the wooden rod for strength but as an alterative I have provided a dowl stl for alignment. I used different glues on each seem but I had the easiest assembly with Gorilla Glue

Paint Tj did all the sanding and I sprayed it with Filer Primer. I showed him how to wet sand between primer and finishing layers. It was finished it with Metallic Silver Spray Paint He did all the weathering with acrylic paints. Lastly I sprayed Clear Gloss on the pommel to make the end jewel shiny.

Grips We used thin Strip Leather and [Contact Cement to wrap the handles. To start cut a taper on the inside edge of the strip about a inch long. Put the contact cement under the leather and pull tight to stretch the leather while you are wrapping.
