Summary A pop-up box that adds some extra animation to giving gift cards!
The design makes use of a scissor mechanism to rotate and raise a gift card to the middle of the opened box.
This remix has extra clearance on the moving parts for an easier assembly.
Printing
- The box can be printed in two parts (Box_Plain_Top.stl & Box_Plain_Bottom.stl) or as a single piece with a print-in-place hinge (Box_Plain.stl).
- The print-in-place hinge has .25mm of clearance all around the axel, which makes two 20mm long bridges. This may be a difficult print and should not be printed with a nozzle that's larger than 0.4mm.
- The print-in-place hinge is printed with the hinge facing down so that the box is open at a 90 degree angle.
- Latch Holder.stl is the only file that requires supports. A newer - Latch_Holder_V2_No_Supports_Needed.stl is now available.
Assembly
- The four latches that hold the card are assembled using 1.75mm filament. The holes for this filament are 2.2mm wide, so this can be a tight fit.
- If the holes are too tight, use a 2mm drill bit to open them up slightly.
- If the holes are too loose, either use heat to melt and seal the filament into the hole, or use glue to prevent the filament from falling out.
- Pay close attention to the positioning and orientation of the parts as shown in the video. If Latch_Top.stl is assembled upside down, the mechanism will not fully close.
