Viking Box V1

This decorative box featuring a Viking design, painted to emulate an antique wooden finish. The centerpiece is an intricately detailed depiction of a Viking warrior's face, complete with a horned helmet and flowing beard, surrounded by elaborate Norse knotwork patterns. The surface of the box is hand-painted, carefully applied to mimic the weathered texture and color of aged wood, adding an authentic, rustic charm.

You can print the lid upright, similar to how my Book Boxes are printed. I've included the Bambu Viking_Box_V1_Lid.3mf file as a reference to guide you.

The lid is designed with slots to accommodate 5mm x 2mm magnets, ensuring it stays securely in place.

The box dimensions are 130mm (L) x 100mm (W) x 70mm (H).

Note: It is widely recognized among historians and archaeologists that there is no concrete evidence to suggest Vikings wore horned helmets in battle or daily life. This popular image of horned Viking helmets is largely a product of 19th-century romanticism and later reinforced by opera costumes and pop culture.

That said, the model presented here is a purely fictitious representation of a Viking warrior, created for artistic and imaginative purposes. It is not intended to be a historically accurate depiction.

As for whether horned helmets may have been used in ceremonial or ritual contexts, this remains a topic of debate and speculation, but it’s a discussion for another time!

Hi! It depends on your printer setup. I use a Bambu P1S and achieve excellent results when printing upright with a 0.2mm layer height and 15% infill. I find the print quality is noticeably better compared to printing flat, as a flat orientation often requires more supports on the underside.

If printing upright, I recommend slowing the outer wall print speed to 60 mm/s.

Thanks for your quick response! I'm printing on a Carbon X1 and want to put the box on the plate at the same time. Yours looks very good so I will copy you on the upright print. How about ironing?

Printing both at the same time works perfectly fine. You don’t need to use ironing—I rarely, if ever, use it myself. While ironing can improve surface quality, the trade-off is significantly longer print times.

For testing, I typically use a 0.2mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle, as it provides a good balance between speed and acceptable quality at lower settings.

Is it preferable to print it upright vs on the flat underside of the lid?
