Proceeds from this model go toward the purchase of a handicapped-accessible vehicle. When the going gets tough, the tough get creative.

Title says it all. I starting germinating avodado pits over 20 years ago as a hobby. I decided to design a basket to simplify the process. The basket fits a standard sized plastic drinking cup with a 62.5mm to 71mm diameter and minimum depth of 80mm - 90mm. This is a great little project to do with your kids at home and students. It certainly teaches patience.

Clean the avocado pit very good - if there is any avocado pulp on the pit, mold will develop and it can eventually kill the root.

Rinse the pit very aggressivley under running cool water and scrub it with something non-abrasive like a dish towel, soft sponge etc.

If the outer brown skin comes off - that's ok, it won't hurt anything. Some people suggest removing the skin, but I never have and I have a very high germination rate. If you want to remove the outer skin, soak the pit in cold water for an hour and carefully remove the skin with a sharp knife.

Place the avocado pit in the basket with the pointy end facing up. Place the basket in the cup and fill with water to halfway up the side of the pit. If you have chlorinated water, I recommend using bottled water. Change the water once a week, or sooner if mold etc. develops.

Easy does it. Place in a warm spot that doesn't get too hot, like a windowsill. Avoid direct harsh sunlight, too mush heat will kill the pit! I've had great success on top of a refrigerator, as it is a little warm and stays the same temperature.

A small taproot will eventually start growing out of the bottom of the pit. This taproot is hard and brittle, so be careful not ot damage it. If the root breaks then the pit is done for :(

When the roots are well-developed, transfer to a pot. There is plenty of information online about the right type of pot, soil, etc. : https://www.google.com/search?q=best+soil+for+avocado+saplings&rlz=1C1RXQR_frIT1190IT1190&oq=best+soil+for+avocado+saplings&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCDc1MzNqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Avodaco trees can burn in direct sunlight, even on a cool day. Indirect sunlight is best.

The basket can be printed without supports and is best printed with PLA+ at 10% moisture with 50% triangular infill.

Dry your filament, eat your vegetables, don't do drugs.
