Introducing the Iron Druid Duck Collection
What started as a fun experiment quickly evolved into something far more ambitious: a fully realized collectible concept line inspired by the core characters of The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne—reimagined as stylized, STL-friendly rubber ducks.
This collection brings together Atticus O’Sullivan, Granuaile, Oberon, The Morrigan, Perun, and Coyote, each transformed into a cohesive, print-ready form while preserving the essence that makes them so memorable. The challenge wasn’t just to reinterpret these characters—it was to distill their identities into bold, simplified shapes that could translate cleanly into physical objects without losing personality.
At the heart of the set is Atticus, positioned as the grounded center of the lineup. His design reflects balance—ancient wisdom wrapped in modern practicality—expressed through clean forms, a simplified staff, and subtle nods to his druidic connection. Around him, the supporting cast expands the visual and emotional range of the collection.
Granuaile embodies growth and precision, her silhouette sharpened by a staff and dagger that reflect both discipline and rising power. Oberon brings warmth and humor, his shaggy form and ever-present sausages capturing the chaotic charm that fans know and love. The Morrigan introduces a darker elegance, with feathered forms and a commanding presence that reads instantly, even in simplified geometry.
Perun stands as the powerhouse of the lineup—broad, imposing, and unmistakable—while still adhering to the core duck form. His design demonstrates how far the visual language can stretch while remaining structurally sound and print-friendly. And then there’s Coyote—the wildcard. With a relaxed stance and a knowing expression, his design captures playful intelligence and mischief, proving that personality can be embedded directly into form.
What ties the entire collection together is a shared design philosophy: prioritize silhouette, embrace simplicity, and ensure every detail serves both readability and manufacturability. Each character was carefully refined to eliminate fragile elements, unify forms, and maintain consistency across all views—front, side, and back—resulting in concepts that are not only visually appealing but also ready for translation into 3D models.
This isn’t just fan art. It’s a proof of concept for a collectible line—one that respects its source material while standing on its own as a cohesive, production-ready design system.
And perhaps most importantly, it proves something simple:
Even gods, druids, and tricksters can be reduced to their essence…
and still look great as ducks.
