May 2026 Release - the Honeycomb Lockbox

Hi Printsmiths! Spring is in full force, gardens are blossoming, crops are sprouting, and our local pollinators are busy busy busy helping the cycle of life continue for all of our beautiful plant life. It just felt appropriate to capture the buzz of life with the Honeycomb Lockbox!

This release inherits our loose “seasonal” theming from April, pairing up nicely with the Spring Lockbox. We used to keep several honey bee hives on our property to help with our small fruit tree grove and local vegetable gardens, and I really wanted to celebrate the industrious side of nature with this design. The honeycomb hexagonal pattern was an obvious pick, and adding some more dynamic goopy honey drips added a fun cartoonish whimsy that just felt right. Some fun little honey bees on the inset edges ties everything together.

I knew from the jump that I wanted contrasting light and dark tones for this lockbox. I carried forward the Pastel Banana from the Spring Lockbox for the honeycomb and added in the Silk Gold from the Celtic Lockbox for the honey itself. I used Lemon Yellow for parts of the honey bee and used Panchroma Brown for the main contrasting body framing. I pivoted away from Polymaker PLA and used up some of my old Hatchbox True Black PLA to round out the honey bee parts. Overall, I really like how this print pairs up with the color schemes from prior months.

You’ll know by now that I really like picking a font that is thematically appropriate for the overall design, so finding one that fit the honeycomb aesthetic was a fun challenge. I ultimately landed on Cheee Jimbo by James Edmondson, which has a fun bulbous look to it with some occasionally drippy extensions that fit the honey motif.

This is the first design for our 2026 lockbox series that doesn’t specifically invoke a holiday or natural season and is more evoking a specific theme or idea. I have several more designs in this vein coming up, including our upcoming design for June 2026, so stay tuned for a sweet surprise next month.

In the meantime, I invite you to download the Honeycomb Lockbox and give it a print yourself. As always, I cannot wait to see your final builds!

My best, Peter
