March 2026 Release - the Celtic Lockbox
Hi Printsmiths! Winter wanes and hints of Spring abound, and as St. Patrick's Day approaches what better way to secure your family heirlooms than with the Celtic Lockbox!
As I planned out themes and designs for each month’s puzzle box, I knew right away I wanted to pull in classic Celtic and Irish design elements for a St. Patrick’s Day-themed lockbox. I have family heritage rooted in Ireland and had the pleasure to visit several years ago (where I actually first started designing my first 3D printed “cryptex” model) and so really nailing this design meant something special to me.
I’ve gravitated toward mosaic visual elements with these puzzle box designs and knew a classic interweaving Celtic knot pattern would be perfect for the end caps. I built out from there with a couple other knot designs, pivoting from rings to loops and interlocking diamond series. After trolling through Adobe’s font library, I landed on a couple of font options that also fit the traditional and rune-style lettering that matched the Celtic knot feel, ultimately landing on BC Unciala by Briefcase Type.
Finally, I knew I wanted gold and green color elements, specifically highlighting the knot patterns in metallics on a darker background. I’ve really enjoyed working with Polymaker PLA filament lately and a quick survey of their catalog landed me on LM Sparkle Green for the primary body and lettering color, Army Green for a green/brown highlight, and Silk Gold for the secondary knot and dial color.
Overall, I am very happy with the final design and print and I hope you are too. I invite you to download the Celtic Lockbox and give it a print yourself. I cannot wait to see your final builds!
My best, Peter
