SP00L Lamp

Spool is a 3d printable lamp design that gives new life to filament spools.

Those of us who print know what it's like to have spent spools lying around not knowing what to do with them, plus they are difficult to recycle. That's why I created this design that ingeniously plays with the spools to make the most of them.

If you give a lot of support to the design I will create a line of lamps with the same concept of reusing spools!

To assemble it you only have to print 4 times the same piece (SPOOL.stl), I recommend printing them 2 by 2. The next step would be to glue or solder two pieces so that you have two half-cylinders with the bases at the ends. These halves are attached to two spools, one at the top where the socket with the bulb will be attached, and another at the bottom. Finally, the two halves are tied together with string or you can even use filament scraps.

You can play with the combination of different types and colors of spools that you have: dark or transparent, plastic or cardboard... I used the dark spools from 3DJake and the transparent ones from Sakata 3D.

The outer diameter of the lamp is 22.5 cm, I left a margin so you can assemble it with coils of different brands of 1kg. You can even scale the design so that you can mount a smaller version with smaller spools!

For more clarification you can check my Instagram where I will be posting more information about the project: https://www.instagram.com/creaserra

3D PRINTING SETTINGS For the model (SPOOL.stl) it should be printed using transparent PLA (I used from 3DJake) in the optimal orientation (big base down) and using the following parameters:

Infill: 0% No Support No adhesion Layer height: 0.3 mm Top layers 4 Bottom layers 4 Wall line count: 3 Nozzle size: 0.4 mm Line width: 0.4 mm Nozzle temperature: 210ºC Retraction: Yes
