It's springtime now, and maybe that's why we thought of birds for May. The YuanYang are duck folk, and they comprise the majority of the YuanYang Territories. But other birdfolk make their homes here, including the itinerant Yosuzume sparrowfolk, and the ShuoYu peacockfolk. There are also many legendary creatures that live in this mountainous region, many of them dangerous predators typically hunted by the brave and dashing knights. Though none but Fox Blade, YuanYang Knight has ever managed to use a Crimson-Crested Wyrm as a mount! It's the sort of tale that Emerald Ink, ShuoYu Warrior Bard might sing about at the local tavern, while Iro, Aki, Takei, & Sada, Yosuzume Mercenaries share drinks after a hard day's work.

Poor Calrais' computer died close to the end of the month, so our wonderful bases and terrain pack was sculpted by Chloé Amiot, Paul Ferret, Karurosu, and Erin! It was a bit of a mad rush less than a week before the end of the month, but we managed to pull through with everyone's help😅

We have a BIG throwback pack this month, as the vote leaned into the multiples this time. Subscribers will get the Noctuoidea Lanceolaria 3 pack, the Hanzaki Grenadiers 3 pack, and Yuwen Hui and Yuwen Zhu, Xueren Master & Apprentice with their yak companions!

As usual, you can see the complete Lore in our CobraCompendium, and this month's lore below:

Fox Blade (Hú Fēng 狐锋) - YuanYang Knight

When Fox Blade was a young knight, her unit was sent to subdue a monster that was terrorizing Green Cliff Village, high in the mountain passes. Little did they know that the monster was a Crimson-Crested Wyrm, which wreaked havoc on the knight order and carried Fox Blade off as food for its soon-to-hatch young. Instead, the crafty YuanYang escaped with one of the enormous eggs, rolling it carefully down through the mountain forests and raising the hatchling herself. To this day, Fox Blade is the only YuanYang knight to have such a rare and impressive mount, and is revered for her legendary cleverness in both battle and deed.

Crimson-Crested Wyrm - 赤冠应龙 (Chì Guān Yìng Lóng)

High in the mountain peaks of Northern YuanYang Territories are the great nests of the Chi Guan Ying Long, the Crimson-Crested Wyrm. Nearly as impressive as the Sacred Beast, Peng, the Crimson-Crested Wyrm’s brilliant colors are like a fiery sunset fading to starry, velvety night. With a long body resembling the Celestial Snake and a head like a noble rooster, these creatures are extremely rare and long-lived, with only a few sightings per year by those who traverse the high mountain passes.

ShuoYu Zhu - (Shimmering Feather Tribe) Peacock Folk

The ShuoYu Zhu peacock folk live alongside the YuanYang, marrying their martial strength and prowess to the organizational and administrative abilities of the duck folk. Though they have fierce pride in their ethnic identity, they are individualists at heart, extremely independent, and unlikely to work together with other peacocks for a common goal. The YuanYang have leveraged these traits and placed the peacocks in royal honor guards, as generals, and other positions where their larger stature and impressive plumage is put to good use.

Emerald Ink (碧墨 Bì Mò) - ShuoYu Warrior Bard

The beautiful and elegant Emerald Ink is a master of the glaive. A showy member of the Royal Guard, his fighting style is graceful and precise, emphasizing flowing transitions and unexpected flourishes, almost like a martial form of calligraphy. He sees combat as harsh, kinetic poetry and strives to find the underlying rhythm and grace even in the deadliest exchange. Beyond the glaive, Emerald Ink is also a gifted poet, calligrapher, and speaker. His clever wordplay, rallying cries, and taunts, inspire his allies and debase his enemies even in the heat of battle.

Iro, Aki, Takei, & Sada - Yosuzume Mercenaries

This quartet of tough Yosuzume sparrow folk were hired by the YuanYang to fill out their military ranks. Though mainly spear fighters, they also carry swords for close quarters battle. Due to their small size, they don’t typically wear metal armor and prefer lighter-weight studded leather. Takei, their de facto leader, wears a fine plumed helmet to distinguish himself on the battlefield.
