Something about the heat of summer always makes us think about Pirates. This month, we're following the pirate ship The Consensus, a ship that is almost entirely made of captains who can't agree. The only crew member, a gruff otterfolk named Birtum, has to keep everything together while they bicker and vie for command. Even Boris the battlestation walrus insists on being a captain, even as the other captains ride on his back. It's honestly amazing that the ship can even get under sail, but somehow they make it work in the end.

Our wonderful themed bases and terrain pack was sculpted by Calrais, with concept art from Paul Ferret (who also did some fantastic concepts for the characters). The throwbacks pack this month includes Gesi, Boondaburra Artillery, and his goat cart of cannon balls pulled by Uri the goat, Sarashino, Hikiga Spirit Binder and her Flask and Cauldron Tsukumogami, and the September 2022 Bases and Terrain Pack, an Asian-themed pack that's perfect for Guanghan, Xueren, or other Qian Sheng Shan denizens.

Conflux Creatures is still working on May 2026, but June 2026 is already done and can be found in the Cobra Codex already. I stalled a bit on the lore pages for Cobramode.com while working on other things, but I'll be able to get back this month and start filling out even more pages pretty soon. I haven't fully connected up the table of contents to what's available, but if you go through the most recent collections, you'll see links to their lore, faction pages, and character listings set up already :D For example, the Guanghan have a nice listing of all the characters now, so you can see at a glance if you're missing any.

For now, the full lore can still be found on the CobraCompendium: https://bit.ly/3om6snO
The full listing of collections can be found on cobramode.com/collection

This month's lore:

Vaalarus

Far to the North, in the ice encased lands that rarely melt, is the land of Vaalarus. This harsh landscape of ice and ocean is inhabited by hardy folk who are named after their land. Their floating iceberg villages and towns can shift with the seasons and the currents. As such, their main inter-village trading and traveling time is winter, when the ocean is frozen, locking the icebergs in place. During the summer, they sail to distant lands to collect supplies that can’t be found in their frozen homeland.

Vaalarus (Walrus Folk)

The collected walrus folk are referred to as the Vaalarus, although several distinct species exist. The majority are made up of a smaller, erudite type, who tend to be concentrated in administration and government. Next are the extremely large type, who are seen as less intellectual (for many reasons both fair and unfair), who are concentrated in the military,  defence, and labour industries.

Fyodor, Vaalarus Captain

Though the Vaalarus are a known seafaring folk, it’s rare to see them as far South as Boondaburra, and even rarer to see them pirating with a whole ship full of other captains. Truthfully, Fyodor finds it extremely hot in the Southern waters, but refuses to give up any of his fine regalia; not even the fur trim of his coat. He wears the uniform of a Commodore in the Vaalarus Navy, but is tight-lipped about whether he stole it or not.

Boris, Vaalarus Captain

A battle walrus hailing from Vaalarus, Boris has abandoned his official posting alongside Fyodor, in search of fortune and infamy. Although he was a bit reluctant to go against the grain at first, Fyodor convinced him to defect. With promises that he could become a captain also, Boris has now taken to the pirate life with gusto.

Warami, Boondaburra Pirate Captain

One of the many captains on The Consensus, a pirate ship with a unique crew structure. Warami has deigned to perform the duties of a lookout, despite her being a high status captain, and can often be found in unorthodox locations in the course of her work. She claims this is purely by choice, but has been known to be tricked into several of the situations by other crewmembers.

Gidri, Seagull Captain

This noble seagull is ostensibly part of the crew of The Consensus, although nobody knows what his role is. Not wanting to be left out, Gidri is also insisting on being a captain of the ship, evidenced by his fine hat.

Keshun, Boondaburra Pirate Captain

Claiming to be a fallen noble, Keshun continues to wear a silk top hat “as a matter of principle”, despite its decrepit state. She has a refined, aristocratic fencing style, which lends some credence to her claims, but is somewhat lacking in other areas such as manners and literacy. Some of the other crew members whisper (unkindly), that she found the top hat somewhere and isn’t a noble at all; however, there is no proof either way.

Nashur, Octopus Captain

Formidable swashbuckler and multitasker, Nashur is a force to be reckoned with. Nobody is sure how Nashur got on the ship, but they appeared one morning, wearing a captain’s hat, and have stayed ever since. Although Nashur isn’t capable of speaking, they make their opinions known quite forcefully - usually at the point of a sword or the end of a pistol.
