FLEXI OCTOPUS: 2022 to 2026 Glow Up

This design has been with me since the very beginning. The first version went up in 2022, originally posted on Cults3D (https://cults3d.com/:759086) and also up on Thangs (https://than.gs/m/915366), one of my earliest print in place attempts, sculpted with the limited tools and experience I had at the time. Four years and thousands of hours of design work later, I went back and rebuilt it completely from scratch. What changed:

Anatomy: reworked from a generic tentacled shape into proper octopus proportions: a rounded, lifelike mantle, correctly tapered tentacles, and sculpted eye detailing instead of flat inset shapes.

Articulation: the joint segments are tighter and far more consistent, giving smoother, more natural movement straight off the plate instead of the looser, chunkier hinges of the original.

Print reliability: refined tolerances mean no supports, no assembly, and clean prints on the first try, informed by everything I've learned running MELS 3D LABS for the past 5 years.

Surface finish: smoother transitions and cleaner topology throughout, replacing the rougher faceting visible on the 2022 print.

The original was made by someone just starting to learn CAD. This one was made by someone who's spent five years and 50,000+ downloads figuring out what actually works. Same octopus, same idea, completely different designer. A fun fidget toy, desk companion, or display piece, printed in place as a single part with smooth, lifelike movement.
