I've tried multiple different yarn bowl patterns and have struggled with the swirl overhang. Drives me crazy. I've wasted tons of filament (See photo of failed attempts. And that's not all of them). I finally got this dragon yarn bowl to work after manually adding more tree supports. I use Prusaslicer on an Ankermake printer. I watched a few Youtube videos on how to add extra supports to the swirl. Then went into Prusa and changed the support style to Organic (aka Tree); changed the Top Contact Z Distance to 0.2; and the Branch Diameter to 5. Some of the issues I had were that the tree supports would fall over halfway through building them, but before the reached the height where they would do any good. Increasing the diameter of them to 5 seemed to help. The supports will be hard to get off of the swirl. You'll need a clipper. I broke a swirl off one because I was in too much of a rush to break off the supports. I noticed a few thin spots on the bottom of the bowl around the edges. I'm not sure if that's something I did or if the designer can add a few more layers of filament to the design (Sorry, I'm new to 3D printing and still learning all these things). Love the finished product and I'm glad I found this design.
Just made one of these for a friend. She does a lot of knitting and crocheting. It appears that this may be designed for round balls of yarn/wool which are not what we have in the UK. In the UK a standard ball of wool is 100g and measures 200mm top to bottom and 100mm diameter. I have tried resizing the bowl for her, but this just results in very thick walls and a lot of wasted filament.
Is there any way you can redesign this so that the bowl will be able to use 200mm x 100mm size.
Thanks
I absolutely cannot get this to print properly. I've tried different filament, printers, and settings when the recommended settings failed to print. Love the model, though.
What does this mean and how do I implement it in Cura?
'Between the layers 57 and 80 I recommend using 4 layers, to strengthen the swirl specially when using silk filaments.'
Thanks
Gotcha. Which slicer do you recommend? I can't load the latest version of Cura due to the integrated graphics chip in my PC being too old to accept OLE 2.0. And, no one in the groups seems to know how to add walls in mid print.
But, I do have Orca and Creality slicers.
Thanks.
Thanks for the help on this. I printed the .3mf last night in solid PLA, and it was perfect. 7.5 hours on the 3 Plus! A lot better than the 23h+ on the Ender 3 Pro <g>.
Now printing one in PLA Rainbow to use as the gift.
Sent you an insta, but will follow up here. trying to make one for my granddaughter by Thursday.
I opened in Orca and it came in for the Bambu. If I switch to my Ender-3 V3 Plus profile, will it change any setting in a negative way? I'll check the layer height and infill of course.
yes.,the horn nearest the shell does not need supports, but if you look at the model its hollow under the horns, if checked in meshmixer it finds the weakness and only fix is to delete them. if you was to use this as intended like my mrs does the horns would last 2 seconds. could it be remodelled without the holes underneath? otherwise only fix is reprint the horns separate and glue them on
Ok I see the issue now, it only happens with Simplify3D. I have fixed the files, please download the STL files for single color again, both files should slice fine on Simplify3D, sorry for the trouble :)

looks amazing!!
Looks amazing, thanks for sharing!
thanks!! ç
beautiful makes, thanks for sharing
Everythings ok, but prusaslicer cant use adaptive layers for tree support ;) will see tommorow or it will print ok
In that case you can try regular supports :) thanks for your support
Sorry you had so much trouble with this but glad you made it work at the end 😁

Hi, thanks I will soonish

You can send me a message on my Insta and I will try to help you to print this

I'm not sure in Cura. You just have to add an adjustment between those layers and increase the walls, I'm sure it will be tutorials around for Cura

If you use orca or Bambu Slicers you can just load the 3MF included and it´s pre supported and pre configured

It should keep all the settings no matter the printer
I love your patterns done 3 now all perfect
Thanks!
Thank you for including pics and the instruction PDF, so so helpful. Can't wait to print!
no worries!!!
Good morning! Any idea why the files won't open in Cura? Thanks!
Hi, are you trying to open the 3MF or the STL? The STL should work, the 3MF is only for Bambu Studio
unable to print - both horns - hollow underneath so both horns failed.
did you use supports?

Are you using the STL for single color 3d printing? This could happen when using the color files on some slicers
