Tree trunk vase “Betula Pendula”: https://than.gs/m/1325685

I recently went to the national park Hainich in Germany which is part of the “UNESCO Ancient and primeval Beech forests of the Carpathians and other regions of Europe”. A long title that means you get to find cool old trees with mushrooms on them – which I like a lot. I scanned quite a few stunning specimens and this particular birch with tinder mushrooms on them was one of my highlights of the trip.

The slender tree was perfect to turn it into a vase for a single flower. To actually get the beautiful contrast of the light and dark parts of the bark, the moss and mushrooms into the design I opted for a 4-color print. To reduce waste and make the mushrooms print supportless I decided to split the tree down in the center and print it flat. The scan optimization and especially the coloring took for ever as usual with these large scans. I am really really happy with how the print came out. It looks soooo real!

A stunning little vase with a ton of detail, a true eye-catcher.
