The fruit series is back!

Pineapple Coasters: https://than.gs/m/1299692

This design started out as a replacement for a project that went sideways. I originally wanted to turn something else into a stackable coaster set. That one went horribly wrong and wasted 20+ hours of my time. Sometimes you have to admit defeat and move on.

Lucky for me I went to buy groceries just that day and saw the most well-shaped mini pineapple I have ever seen! I always sneak up on the food aisle to check if there is anything particularly beautiful in there to bring home and scan. A moment of struggle is always the checkout – last time I took home mushroom to scan - the cashier mushed them all together to weight, which did a lot of damage. I don’t want to bother the people working there with extra requests, so I kind of just hope they don’t smash the thing in the process.

The pineapple made it home in one piece and I got a pretty decent scan out of it. Just then my enthusiasm faded because I remembered how long the last pineapple that I scanned took to get optimized for support free printing. 4 Full days of blender struggle it was. With February being a short month and me already behind on my projects I managed to do it in just two days with very little sleep. I folded the lower leaves slightly more to connect to the upper part of the pineapple body to avoid support in this area. The other leaves I folded up a bit, just enough to work.

Painting the 3MF was first done in blender for the outer shape, then cut and imported into Bambu studio which works better for flat surface painting. Painting all 10 pieces by hand was another big task but this is kind of brain-dead work, so it wasn’t too bad.

The print worked on the first try and the video shooting went smoothly too.

The thing turned out really cool and I hope you appreciate all the effort that went into this big project!
