A while ago I went out on the hunt for specifically straight trees – for cylindrical projects. I ended up using a scan of “Alnus Glutinosa”. A beautiful tree with a lot of bark texture.

I spend a few days getting the bark printable without support and had to fix every details manually – so I would not loose surface details. Once again more work than initially expected. I also made a multi color swing lid with only the first layer needing color changes to reduce waste.

In terms of functionality and size it works exactly as the OG trash can and the “Glitch” variant. I could reuse only the dimensions and had to redo everything to be able to export the geometry as cuts into blender. A wild process with quite a few PC crashes.

From 2 meters away it really looks real! The colors that I used, wood brown and peanut from Polymaker do work quite well – but I bet there are other colors out there that would really make it indistinguishable from a real tree trunk!
