A random ballon that wiggles
My self-ballancing balloon piggy bank!
I loved the idea of having a random ballon around to confuse people. But we are still team functional, so I had to give it at least some use case. I wanted it to be solid and somehow self-balancing. So, what better weight do we have than coins? The weight is the function, so I turned it into a piggy bank!
I started the assembly in fusion and made the basic shape hollow. Since we have to open it at some point I split it into two parts. Since both of those have to sit flat on the print bed to be able to print without support – that would mess with the surface quality – I came up with a threaded connector ring. It fits into the parts supportless by utilizing a bit of bridging on the body and top. I am a little surprised at how well this works so I will definitely use this type of connection again in the future when I have to split up a design.
Ballons are pretty much perfectly parametrical, so I only had to sculpt the very top in blender, which was honestly pretty easy compared to more ambitious projects. A lot of smooth sailing on this project and I absolutely love the result! It wiggles so funny, and you can place it right on the edge of your table without having to worry about it falling down. Every time I walk past it I give it a little slap and that makes me weirdly happy for some reason.
Have fun printing
