A cannon that can’t shoot
My new cannon spotlight lamp!
This project started out with me needing a lamp spotlight for my living room that is a little dark at the moment. After looking at a few products, I thought: “Wait why would I purchase something like this if it is literally my job to design such things?”
Starting out with a lot of sketches and quick prototypes I realized that this design would require several mechanisms to work, since you have to be able to rotate it vertically and horizontally. I had to figure out a shoot that works with a default socket kit. This is not my first lamp at all so I could use a bunch of knowledge from previous projects but integrating the assembly was tricky and took a while.
The weirdest part was that the horizontal ration was pretty much already done because you can just rotate it around. That would lead the cable outlet to be positioned randomly, which I hated. So instead of taking a shortcut here I cooked up a base that not only allows for alignment of the outlet but also lets you define the cord length by winding it up inside.
In the end it’s just a light spot but getting all of the moving parts right took me a lot of time and effort. I absolutely love the end result though and I believe it’s a great end to the year 2025, wrapping it up with a bang - hehe
Have fun printing see you next year
